Italy had to settle for a silver medal in the mixed time trial relay at the European Championships 2025 in the Drôme-Ardèche departments of southern France. The Azzurri suffered a comeback by France, which took its first gold by just 6 seconds.

Filippo Ganna, Lorenzo Milesi and Marco Frigo left the baton with a lead of about 25″. Vittoria Guazzini, Federica Venturelli and Elena Cecchini try to administer the lead, but the gap with the transalpine women is slowly reduced at all the detections, at the last of which the two formations were paired. The last 1.5-kilometer uphill section was decisive, in which the French completed the comeback. Third, 40″ behind, was Switzerland.

This is the third medal for the Tricolor at the European Championships after Federica Venturelli’s gold in the U23 time trial and Filippo Ganna’s silver in the time trial. “The silver medal is a good result although losing the gold by a handful of seconds is never nice” admitted CT Marco Villa.

“A silver medal at the end satisfies us said Guazzini -We gave everything, but we couldn”t avoid the recovery. “This medal has a special flavor, it is my first as an Elite – added Venturelli -. I think I will remember it for a long time”. “Yesterday I was not going and I was not happy with the individual time trial. Today, however, I felt good and had a lot of fun. Of course, gold would have been a great satisfaction, but this silver is also a pleasure” concluded Milesi.
