It’s official: Jasmine Paolini qualified for WTA Finals

Despite today’s loss in Ningbo to Elena Rybakina, Jasmine Paolini has mathematically qualified for the WTA Finals in singles, scheduled November 1 to 8 in Riyadh, where tonight is the Six Kings Slam final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. This is announced in a post on X by Wta.
The 29-year-old Tuscan from Bagni di Lucca is in her second consecutive participation in the Finals, in which in addition to singles she will also participate in doubles with Sara Errani. Paolini is the seventh player qualified for the WTA Finals, with Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff (defending champion), Amanda Anisimova, Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys.
The’last available spot is being played for by Mirra Andreeva and Rybakina in the final round of the WTA 500 Ningbo Open: both are behind Paolini in the Pif Race, and Andreeva is no longer playing this week (she is not registered for the remaining tournaments and has no wild card) and if beaten could no longer overtake the blue player. In essence, Paolini centered her participation in the Finals by reaching the semifinals of the Ningbo Open.
Jasmine’s season was marked by a dream run to a home title at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, where she became the first Italian women’s singles champion in Rome in the past 40 years. She also reached the final of the WTA 1000 Cincinnati Open, where she was defeated by Iga Swiatek, and four other semifinals, adding crucial ranking points, including the 1000 in Miami and Wuhan.
