Carlos Alcaraz’s renunciation of participation in the final phase of the 2025 Davis Cup will certainly change the balance of the tournament reserved for national teams.

The press conference starring David Ferrer was highly anticipated, in this sense, to understand a few more details about the decision of the Murcian. The Spain captain spoke on Tuesday afternoon.

“We are talking about the No. 1 in the world and we can only be sorry for his absence – Ferrer said. However, we must also recognize that if we are here playing for a chance to win the Davis Cup, it is because of all the guys who are part of the team. We will suffer from the’absence, but we will have our chances”.

“We made the decision by mutual agreement– added the Spanish captain. “He had been dragging on for a while’the problem that stopped him, in the final against Jannik Sinner he had a relapse. He had an MRI that showed the’extent of the injury, his staff and ours understood it was better not to risk it”.

The problem that stopped Alcaraz is, specifically, a muscle edema in the right hamstring: a discomfort that advised the Murcian to forgo the Davis Cup finals, scheduled from Tuesday, Nov. 18 to Sunday, Nov. 23 in Bologna, Italy, so as not to compromise his preparation for next season.
