After a positive start by the Rossoneri, Sassuolo came through at the first opportunity: Pinamonti served a perfect bank for Koné, who beat Maignan on his way out. Allegri’s team, initially surprised, began to grind out play and chances and on 34′ found parity: Modric served Loftus-Cheek deep into the box who unleashed Bartesaghi, who was quick to anticipate the opposing defenders and score the 1-1.

The Milan left-back is on a roll and finds his first double at the start of the second half: this time the assist is from Nkunku, Bartesaghi with a perfect insertion signs the 2-1. Allegri’s team goes in search of the third goal while Sassuolo tries to regain its lost order: at 57′ Pulisic scores the 3-1 but the former Chelsea’s tap-in goal is cancelled due to a contact between Pavlovic and Candé.

A Milan at 60′ loses Gabbia due to a physical problem, in comes De Winter. Allegri’s team gets another goal annulled: this time Rabiot is found offside. Behind, however, the hosts begin to dance: Maignan is decisive on two occasions on Thorstvedt, but on 75′ the guest equalizer arrives. Pinamonti finds another precise assist for Laurienté, who scores the 2-2 on a diagonal.

Balanced and very tense final, it is Sassuolo that has the most dangerous chances: at’87’ Tomori saves on Laurienté, a minute later again the French outside player scares the Meazza by hitting the post at the end of a fast counterattack of the neroverdi. It’s the last thrill, Milan can no longer make themselves dangerous and brake at home.
