With an unusual schedule for cycling, the 2026 European Elite Track Championships will kick off on Sunday, Feb. 1 (concluding on Thursday, Feb. 5). Venue is Konya, a city of about a million inhabitants in the heart of Anatolia, on Turkey’s central plateau, at an altitude of just over 1,000 meters. This opens the international season that will culminate with the World Championships in Shanghai in October, the first event useful for qualifying for the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.

Chief coaches Diego Bragato, Ivan Quaranta, Edoardo Salvoldi and Marco Villa have summoned 20 athletes. Returning to the national team are Simone Consonni, Elisa Balsamo and Letizia Paternoster, who were absent from the World Championships in Chile. As for the women’s endurance sector, of note is the presence of the very young Anita Baima and Linda Sanarini, both making their debut with the elite national team. Also present was Federica Venturelli, the only survivor of the quartet that won the rainbow title at the recent world championships in Chile.

In the men’s field, Consonni and Lamon lead a group composed largely of young people who have already gained experience in major international events. Also confirmed almost entirely is the group of sprinters, with the addition of Fabio Del Medico, Matilde Cenci and Siria Trevisan, making their debut at an Elite European.
