Tina Maze, one of the WBD experts, was elated at Federica Brignone’s capture of gold in the giant slalom. For the Carabiniere from Valle d’Aosta, that makes two medals of the most precious metal placed around her neck in these Olympics, two like those taken home in the past by the Slovenian: two outliers, two athletes loved by all for their talent and stubbornness.

“I think it was incredible – recounted Tina -Her last two weeks of preparation for these competitions were fantastic. I was training with her three weeks ago-I was shooting a subjective video (POV) while she was training for the Olympics. She took the right steps to be able to move forward. Racing downhill and Super-G helped her’find the right rhythm for the Giant Slalom. Overall, it is an incredible comeback for Federica. She has improved her performance, she has been able to regain the same flow she had last year when she was dominating. It”s incredible.

“They are absolutely incredible – echoed her Andre Myrher – both the Olympic performance she is delivering, and the way she has come back after that injury. Brignone is showing immense class today. There was no doubt; she was determined. There was clearly still room for speed for Federica in this second run, but she skis so smartly, reasoning out the difficult sections, adjusting her line and staying perfectly in position. She is showing remarkable maturity and experience.”

Federica Brignone wins her first Olympic gold medal with an extraordinary performance.
"It's something incredible, I never thought I would win" declares the champion excited.

The skier called herself an'outsider but tried to make the fastest lines possible.
"I feel the'adrenaline running through my veins and it is a very strong emotion" tells Brignone.
A record recovery after the terrible injury on April 3 at the Italian championships.

“I am very well, I came back last night from Cortina, I traveled at night when they reopened let’s say the roads, around eight o’clock I left and then I slept very well. The secret of the second gold I think is the lightness with which she is living these days. As she said in some of the interviews that I listened to, the not having expectations, not having stress, not having the thirst and hunger for that result that maybe sometimes blocks you. And already that had been a little bit’ the secret of the first gold, the Super G gold. Even more so for this second one, and another secret is also the fact that in giant slalom from the first moments when she put the skis back on and did poles she felt comfortable, she has as if continued that amazing form she was in last year before the injury’injury” instead said Ninna Quario to RTL 102.5.

“She was almost unbeatable in the races where she made it to the bottom and it&#8217s as if she hasn&#8217t lost any of that soft light skiing that makes her go fast. Maybe also the physical and mental freshness, the others have already done three months of the season, she on the other hand has just an incredible desire to compete and also this in my opinion helps” added Brignone’s mom.
