Leerdam is also one of the most media-savvy athletes of the Games: engaged to famous youtuber-boxer Jake Paul, she has an Instagram profile of 6.2 million followers. And that’s not all: the Dutch skater has a multimillion-dollar contract with sponsor Nike, which she also exploits during the Olympics.

Advertising is prohibited at the Games, except for the official sponsors of the various national teams, but Leerdam manages to circumvent the ban thanks to a trick: she wears a Nike sports bra under her race suit, and as soon as she crosses the finish line the star opens her suit, revealing her sponsor’s logo.

A simple gesture that allows him to have a significant financial impact, as Frederique de Laat, founder of Branthlete, explained to the Dutch newspaper AD: “I suspect he receives about 850,000 euros from Nike”. Her images on TV, combined with the spread of photos on her social channels and those of Jake Paul, allow her to reach a very large number of people.

Jutta after hitting Olympic gold could also decide to quit and retire from competitive competitions: “After seven world and six European titles, only Olympic gold was missing. Now they are full. It is not always easy, especially dealing with the media. They want stories and, if there are none, they make them up. I will decide in the summer whether to go on or stop” said the 27-year-old skater.
