Alex Vinatzer certainly can’t be satisfied with his run at the Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina: in the combined he had failed to make an impact and in the giant had fallen in the second run, then the same thing happened in Bormio. The champion wanted to vent all his disappointment through a Facebook post: “It did not go as I dreamed, but every dream teaches something. The Olympics at home happen, if you are lucky, only once in a lifetime. For me, they were a big disappointment. I wasn”t up to the task of performing when it really mattered”.

“I always thought that at the Olympics only medals counted. Therefore, I took a few extra risks in these races in order to chase the result I had dreamed of. Now, however, I came home empty-handed. Those who know me know that I never give up. I will give it my all to get back up stronger. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to all of you who have always believed in me, cheered me on and supported me during this time. You know who you are, and my thanks go to each and every one of you. The season is not over. It’s back to work. With our heads held high. Always” wrote Alex Vinatzer.

Just a few days ago the champion had written another poignant message after the flop in the combined: “I don&#8220t even know where to start. This is the sport. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. But mostly you learn. Even when you have to learn how much it can hurt to believe it all the way. Today was not easy for me. And I don’t say that to justify myself, because there are no excuses.Defending a descent done well, defending a first place and starting as last was not easy.Doing it then at home, at the Olympics, made it even more difficult”.

“The pressure I felt today I had never felt before.I was afraid of making a mistake. And I did make a mistake. Today I was not living up to what I know I can be. It hurts to say that, but that’s the way it is. I’m sorry John (Franzoni, ed.).Thank you for putting yourself on the line with me, for believing in me and for proving once again what a great skier you are. Forza Italia, always”

In the last few hours, many fans have sent splendid messages of support to Alex Vinatzer: his ‘mea culpa’ has gone viral and struck a chord with many sports fans. “These words honor you, head to the next commitments because they will definitely go better” is one of the comments that received the most ‘likes’.
