Yamaha changes working method to try to help Morbidelli, in great difficulty

Yamaha team manager Lin Jarvis in an interview with Motorsport explained the turnaround decided by the Japanese team to give a helping hand to Franco Morbidelli, who has had a nightmarish season.

According to the new approach decided by Yamaha, Morbidelli will be less involved in the more technical decisions about the set-up of his M1, and will focus mainly on his performance: “Franco wants to understand all the technical aspects of the bike. Sometimes this helps, but there are also times when the rider is too involved in tuning, instead of just communicating his feelings and needs and letting the technicians and engineers do their work.”

Sepang saw the first hint of a resurgence: “He was promoted early to the factory team, and when he did he was injured. He solved his knee problems in the winter, so we definitely expected more from him this season. It probably didn’t help him that he didn’t race for half the season. Also, having a fast teammate like Fabio Quartararo is never easy.”
