Cycling, Alexys Brunel retires at only 23 years old
French runner says stop despite young age
At just 23 years old, French cyclist Alexys Brunel has decided to take other paths, getting off the bike and calling it quits in professional cycling. In fact, the UAE Emirates team has made official the consensual termination of the contract with the Boulogne-sur-Mer native at the latter’s request, who has chosen to devote himself to other activities.
“I would like to thank all the members of UAE Team Emirates for the opportunities they have given me and for the support I have received,” Brunel told the team’s official channels. “It has been a pleasure to be part of this great team, but now it is time for me to move on and focus on new challenges and new life experiences.
“We still believe that Alexys has a remarkable potential as a rider, qualities he already hinted at the beginning of the season,” Mauro Gianetti, team principal and CEO of the Emirati team, said for his part. “But we are talking about a person here and not just a rider, so we fully accept his decision to interrupt his career as a professional rider. We wish Alexys the best in his future endeavors.”
