Filippo Ganna not here, Italy wins anyway
Nations Cup, Italy wins
Very good news from the track Nations Cup in Cali, Colombia, where the Italian quartet (Jonathan Milan, Liam Bertazzo, Francesco Lamon and Michele Scartezzini +Davide Plebani) won their event beating China and Colombia. The Azzurri covered the 4km in 3′:55″:01, distancing the Asians by more than 2″.
In the individual pursuit, on the other hand, Davide Plebani took 3rd place behind Germans Nicolas Heinrich and Tobias Buck Gramcko.
Marco Villa, CT, comments on the performance of the Azzurri: “I would say we did well. It is not the first time competing on this track, even in the pre-Olympic period many athletes competed on the Colombian ring, yet our quartet managed on the night to set the track record. A sign that they went very strong.”
For Villa, the South American one is an important step: “We had to race Jonathan Milan, who is returning after a long layoff, and he was a driving force for the group. The boy is recovered and now we look to the next commitments, particularly the World Championships in St Quentin, France, and before that the European Championships in Monaco.”
Italy won both the men’s and women’s World Cup final rankings.
Now it is the women’s turn with Letizia Paternoster, Valentina Scandolara and Francesca Selva.
Still on the subject of commitments, the U23 and Junior national teams will be busy in the coming days in Portugal, in Anadia, for the European Championships in their category.
