Ancelotti’s deal with Brazil skips, but farewell to Real is certain

A real shock shakes the international football scene: Carlo Ancelotti will not be Brazil’s new technical commissioner. Everything seemed settled: a verbal agreement with the CBF, the debut already set for June 6 against Ecuador and an ambitious project ahead of the 2026 World Cup. However, negotiations came to an abrupt halt due to the firm opposition of Real Madrid, which refused to release the Emilian coach for free.

President Florentino Perez and the blanco club’s board of directors have vetoed an early termination of the contract — due to expire in 2026 — without compensation. The request for a no-cost separation found a firm no from the CBF, which then broke off negotiations. Moreover, Ancelotti made it clear that he did not want to resign without a severance package, thus making any alternative solution impractical.

Real Madrid’s about-face was also triggered by Ancelotti’s trip to London with a Brazilian emissary to finalize the deal, an initiative ill-digested by Madrid’s top management, which believes the coach’s cycle is now over but does not intend to favor his exit.

Despite the failure to reach an agreement with Brazil, the farewell between Ancelotti and Real Madrid appears inevitable. Disappointing sporting results-elimination from the Champions League, defeat in the King’s Cup and run-up in La Liga-have prompted the club to plan a change. Among the names vying for the succession is Xabi Alonso, currently at Bayer Leverkusen, while the possibility of Santiago Solari as a ferryman for the Club World Cup is emerging.

In the meantime, there are rumors of a maxi offer from Saudi Arabia: Al-Hilal would be ready to offer 50 million euros a year to entrust him with the bench. Ancelotti, therefore, is preparing for a new adventure and we will see what it will be. But it will not be in Brazil.
