Victory in the first uphill finish

On the finish line of La Super Planche des Belles Filles, the first uphill finish of this Tour de France, came the second victory in a row for Tadej Pogacar who is increasingly the yellow jersey.

These are his words after the stage: “It was a difficult stage, especially in the last part of the climb, when Vingegaard attacked: he started strong. My teammates had worked all day, thinking about them as well I pushed until the end. The day was special for me, my fiancée and family were also there at the finish,” Pogacar explained. “Today we opened a foundation for cancer research and I had special shoes for this initiative, so, I’m glad I got the maximum.

“Success in this stage had been among my goals for a long time, ever since the Tour 2022 route was presented,” specified the Slovenian, who does not intend to be satisfied. “We gained a few more seconds on our rivals, but the advantage is never enough, especially with strong opponents like Vingegaard, one of the best climbers in the world.
