Casper Ruud honors Matteo Berrettini: his important words
Satisfaction with the victory, but congratulations to the loser.
Casper Ruud won the Atp 250 tournament in Gstaad, beating Matteo Berrettini in a comeback with a score of 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-2. However, the Norwegian wanted to pay tribute to his opponent, who was back from the problems that prevented him from taking part in Wimbledon as well.
“I want to congratulate Matteo,” Ruud said hot on the heels of his Gstaad victory. “I know you’ve been having physical troubles lately, so I want to congratulate you on the week you’ve been having and the great results you’re getting.
The Scandinavian champion, No. 5 in the ATP rankings, admitted that he took the victory as the minutes passed: “In the third set everything went much faster, I had the easy break which never happened in the first two sets. I saved two very important break points at the beginning of the third set and seized the right moment to break Berrettini’s serve and win the title.”
“There is no time to celebrate, when my career is over I will have time to relax and enjoy myself. I am very comfortable in Switzerland, I thank everyone for this wonderful tournament and I will definitely come back next year,” Ruud concluded.
