Di Vaio dreams of Europe

Interviewed at the microphones of Il Resto del Carlino, Marco Di Vaio, Bologna’s new sporting director, spoke about the market and the goals of the Rossoblù club: “We want to continue to grow and reach the minimum goal declared by the president. The threshold of 50 points that allows us to lay the foundations for a Bologna from Europe,” he said.

“A dream of mine? To see Bologna in Europe. It depends on many factors, but what seems far away in soccer today can get closer quickly. We have built a serious and credible club, we can sit at all tables. We could have done better, of course, but we are proud of what has been built,” Di Vaio added.

As for the soccer market, an analysis regarding the disposals: “Hickey and Svanberg were expected, Aaron wanted to go and we took the opportunity with Brentford, while Svanberg not having renewed did not allow us a better disposal – so Di Vaio -. Theate? A very important offer arrived after only a year and the player’s choice to compare himself in Europe weighed in. In four days we went from a normal offer to an important one. With him we close the outgoing transfer campaign.”

Then a comment on the incoming market: “We want to build a competitive Bologna, but now we will have to act faster. Defenders? The names are those (deputy Medel and Theate’s replacement, ed.) but there are others,” Di Vaio added. Ilicic? He is a dream and should be treated as such, first we have to do the concrete things.”

Finally, a reassurance for fans about idol Marko Arnautovic: “He’s staying, we talked with his brother. Marko I see him very much inside the team and the project, he knows many players: if he can, he gives us a hand; he will stay with us many years. Our will from here on is not to give up anyone.”
