F1 Hungary: Verstappen’s feat, Ferrari strategy drowns Leclerc
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen makes a comeback from 10th position and surprisingly wins ahead of the two Mercedes. Ferrari disaster
Stunning victory for Max Verstappen in the Hungarian Grand Prix: the Red Bull driver, who started from tenth position after Saturday’s difficult qualifying, gets the strategy right and makes a comeback, achieving an unhoped-for victory and strengthening his leadership in the overall standings. On the podium along with the Dutchman are the two Mercedes of a great Lewis Hamilton, who started from seventh place, and poleman George Russell.
Ferrari disaster, on a day in which they were aiming for a one-two: Charles Leclerc, first at one point in the race, was heavily penalized by a wrong choice of the race wall, which at the second pit stop decided to mount the hard tires, totally wrong strategy so much so that the Monegasque had to re-enter for a third stop.
Leclerc eventually finished sixth, behind teammate Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez’s other Red Bull. Also in the top ten was Sebastian Vettel.
