Dorothea Wierer and Lisa Vittozzi dominate at summer world championships
Wierer Vittozzi Domination
It’s immediately a double for Italy in the women’s supersprint that opened the Summer World Championships on the German track in Ruhpolding. Dorothea Wierer and Lisa Vittozzi won the gold and silver mdals in the new format introduced by the International Federation with a capital performance on the skirolls, thanks to which they held off the competition. Wierer, two errors at the polygon, shot ahead of all after the initial series and never gave up her position again, coming in at the finish line with a total time of 19’05″7, 45″5 better than Vittozzi, who made three errors at the polygon. Kinnunen, third at the finish line. Off the podium was Marketa Davidova in fourth: the Czech had set the best time in the morning’s qualifying round in which Vittozzi had been eighth and Wierer ninth.
“It was definitely good training, it was important to understand what our level of condition was in a period when we loaded a lot,” commented the South Tyrolean biathlete after the victory.
