Berrettini, his next opponent’s coach speaks: ‘He’s a rock’
“Berrettini is a stone.”
Ahead of Matteo Berrettini’s debut at the Us Open, the last Slam of the season, Horacio de la Peña, former tennis player and coach of his next opponent, Nicolas Jarry, who took over for the injured Hugo Dellien, spoke.
The coach of the Chilean tennis player, world number 123, spoke this way about the challenge between the two: “A very complicated match for Nico. For me Berrettini is one of the best on the circuit after the Big Three,” but he added, “Nico can do well, he comes from the qualifiers so he has a better condition. And then he has that little advantage of success in their last match. But if Berrettini plays well, he’s a rock.”
In fact, Matteo Berrettini and Nicolas Jarry had already faced each other at the ATP 250 in Kitzbuhel in 2018, and it was the Chilean tennis player who prevailed, winning 7-5 6-3. Four years later, however, Matteo is a different player altogether and is aiming high in these Us Open, a tournament in which he reached the semifinals in 2019.
