Matteo Berrettini challenges Andy Murray: “I’m inspired by him.”
Matteo Berrettini prepares for battle against Scottish tennis player
Matteo Berrettini after his victory against Frenchman Hugo Grenier focuses on his next prestigious opponent, former world number one Andy Murray: “They were all very tough battles. Now I think Andy is in much better shape than especially last year. I think it will be a great match, for me it will not be easy. But I am confident. I’ve always enjoyed playing here, even more so in big stadiums. I’m ready.”
The two trained before the tournament, “We are not best friends but we get along well. We often train together. I remember watching it on TV as a kid, and for me to face this kind of player is still a dream come true.”
Berrettini, a frequent victim of injury, models himself after the Scot: “It wasn’t easy for him, mentally it must have been so hard to come back, especially when you’ve been No. 1 in the world. But what he did is an inspiration, I’ve always admired the love he has for the sport. When you face Andy Murray, you’re playing against Andy Murray. And you have to bring out your best tennis.”
