Jayson Granger reveals a backstory with Simone Fontecchio

This morning, during the press presentation Palasport Taliercio Jayson Granger, new acquisition of Umana Reyer Venezia, touched on several topics.

Among many, the new player of the Venetian club, revealed who played a decisive role in his choice: “One of my best friends is Simone Fontecchio, with whom I talked a lot this summer about the choice of where to go to play. And certainly, seeing what Reyer has done in the past as a club, and seeing how well the coaching staff has worked over the years, I realized that it could be the ideal solution for me. And in addition to the Reyer talk, it also spoke a lot to me about the Italian Legabasket, which is a league that has grown a lot in level in recent years, as evidenced by the NBA and Euroleague players who have come to play here this year, so it will definitely be an exciting competition.”

The former Alba Berlin point guard will have to bring leadership and experience to the club: “I think I can definitely bring my 10 years of Euroleague experience and also the motivation to come here to be a leader, also as an example, leading the team and helping teammates improve. It’s a challenge I’m very excited about and I’m looking forward to both the league and the Eurocup, both personally and as a team group.”

Finally, a comment on his new team: “I’ve only been here for two weeks, but I’ve seen some very interesting and very good things, we’ve already given demonstrations of what we can be. However, the process is long, so we have to keep believing and growing. We definitely have players of depth, I have seen very good potential, we have players who have been at this club for a long time. It will be a team effort that we have to make, not so much an individual one: we are in the same boat and we have to row together, precisely because ours has to be a symphony, not a performance of individual players. We have to be an orchestra.”
