Lorenzo Sonego has detached his pass for the quarterfinals of the “Moselle Open,” ATP 250 equipped with a prize pool of 534,555 euros that is being played on the indoor fast track in Metz, France.
The 27-year-old from Turin, No. 65 in the ranking, after prevailing in two sets over Russian Aslan Karatsev, No. 39 ATP and sixth seed, beaten for the first time in four confrontations, defeated 7-6(2) 6-4, in two hours and eight minutes, Frenchman Gilles Simon, No. 175 in the ranking, three times to score in Metz (2009, 2010 and 2018) and in the draw thanks to a wild card.
On Friday Sonego will play for a spot in the semifinals with U.S. Sebastian Korda, No. 49 ATP, who on Wednesday eliminated Lorenzo Musetti, No. 30 ATP and third seed, in two sets.
