F1, Max Verstappen furious: “Unacceptable!”
Disastrous qualifying for Max Verstappen: the Dutchman was called back to the pits while he was running a very good lap, with better partials than rival Charles Leclerc. At the end of the race, the Dutchman vented, “We ran out of gas…if I had continued I wouldn’t have been able to get back in. You have to realize it beforehand, though.”
“They had asked me to abort the lap to have a better chance on the last lap…in hindsight, we were wrong. I can’t do everything. What happened is unacceptable and it is also unacceptable when I make a mistake. It goes both ways,” the 1997-class rider’s thunderbolt.
Tense atmosphere at Red Bull: in addition to the disastrous qualifying, the team is at great risk over the budget cap issue. The FIA is investigating possible violations by the team: “We are currently finalizing the assessment of the 2021 financial data submitted by all F1 teams. Alleged violations of the Financial Regulations, if any, will be dealt with according to the formal procedure provided,” reads the note published by the federation.
“The FIA notes significant and fabricated speculation and conjecture in relation to this matter,” the note continues, “reiterates that the assessment is ongoing and due process will be followed without taking into account any outside discussion,” the note concludes.
