Fernando Alonso, order of arrival

After the end of the Australian GP, the third round of the 2024 F1 World Championship, Fernando Alonso, Spanish driver of the Aston Martin, was faced with an unwelcome epilogue. È was penalized with a 20-second delay on his final race time and three points on his license, following the incident with British Mercedes driver George Russell, which occurred on the penultimate lap of the race at Melbourne's Albert Park.

The accident è occurred in the section of Turns 6-7-8, when Russell, who was closely chasing Alonso, è was caught by the Spanish driver’s braking point, losing control of his W15 and ending up against the wall. Alonso, who è finished sixth at the finish line, è was investigated for an alleged "brake-testing" maneuver, which forced Race Direction to adopt the Virtual Safety Car regime during the GP, which was won by Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari, followed by teammate Charles Leclerc, while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen è retired.

Alonso è s maneuver was considered dangerous and intentional, as he braked 100 meters earlier than the other laps on that section of the track. Despite justifications provided by the Asturian regarding an alleged technical problem on his car, communicated over the radio, the penalty è was confirmed. As a result, Alonso è slipped from the'original sixth place to eighth, finishing behind teammate Lance Stroll and Yuki Tsunoda's Red Bull.
