Jannik Sinner reveals his favorite for the Davis Cup
Sinner, busy in Sofia, also spoke about Davis Cup
Jannik Sinner is engaged in the Atp 250 tournament in Sofia, an event already won twice by the South Tyrolean tennis player, who is aiming for a hat trick.
The 2001-year-old spoke at a press conference ahead of his upcoming semifinal against Norway’s Holger Rune, giving his opinion on his next opponent: “We have trained on several occasions, but we have never faced each other in a tournament. It will be totally new for both me and Him, it’s a difficult test and I hope to be ready. So far I have played at a very high level and I hope to do the same against Rune.”
The Italian holder then went on to point out who he thinks are the favorites to win the Davis Cup, whose final phase will be played in Malaga between November 22 and 27: “I definitely say Spain, although it will be without Rafael Nadal. They have the number one tennis player in the world plus Pablo Carreño Busta, Roberto Bautista Agut and many others. We are strong, but there are many interesting teams. I care a lot about the Davis Cup, I also play it with pleasure, it is a nations competition. I hope that in the next phase of the tournament in Malaga things will go well.”
Jannik Sinner, born in San Candido on August 16, 2001, despite having achieved excellent results in skiing since childhood, decided at the age of 13 to devote himself exclusively to tennis, moving to Bordighera, at the court of Riccardo Piatti. A choice that will prove successful, as Sinner is the youngest Italian tennis player ever to enter the top 100 (October 2019) and to win an Atp title in the Open era (Sofia 2020). In addition, along with Matteo Berrettini, Jannik is the only Italian tennis player to have reached at least the round of 16 in all four Slams. For him, 2022 was the breakthrough year: he left Piatti to rely on Vagnozzi.
