Virtus Bologna, hot name pops up to replace Shengelia

Shengelia is in the pits due to an injury suffered with the national team

Virtus Bologna continues to monitor the market in search of a replacement for Toko Shengelia, who injured his shoulder during the Georgian national team’s game against the Netherlands on the eve of Eurobasket 2022.

Among the hottest names is certainly that of Austin Daye, who in the last four seasons has worn the Reyer Venezia jersey, not his first experience in Italy given also his year with VL Pesaro in 2015-16.

However, the U.S. big forward, who has also played for several NBA franchises, leaves doubts about his physical condition, as he missed a good part of last season precisely because of the problems that affected him. Despite this, it seems that Virtus could step up to discuss signing the 1988 class.

Last season, Virtus Bologna saw the confirmation of the Scudetto it won in 2021 slip away only in the playoff final, lost 4-2 to Olimpia Milano. The highlight of the Felsinians’ year, however, came on May 11, with the conquest of the Eurocup, won in the final against Turkey’s Bursaspor. This success gave Scariolo’s men a pass for the 2022-23 Euroleague season, a competition in which the Bolognese have not participated for 14 years.
