Milan, Saelemaekers injury is serious: long stop for Belgian
World Cup participation seriously jeopardized for Saelemaekers
AC Milan will have to do without Alexis Saelemaekers for several matches, and a real miracle will be needed for the former Anderlecht side to be part of the Belgian selection that will take part in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
This is what emerges from the statement released Sunday afternoon by the Rossoneri, which confirmed the fears of Saturday night, when Saelemekers had to leave the field injured during the Empoli away match: “Alexis Saelemaekers during the Empoli match suffered a distorting injury to his left knee,” the note reads. “The examinations carried out this morning showed a partial injury of the medial collateral ligament. The player will follow conservative treatment.”
The stop, for this type of injury treated conservatively, is a stop of 6 to 8 weeks. In the league and cups, therefore, Milan risks not having the number 56 available in official matches until after the break for the World Cup.
