Felix Auger-Aliassime’s surprise defeat in the first round of the Atp tournament in Astana reopens the race for the Atp Finals in Turin, and also restores hope to our own Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner.

The Canadian tennis player, who is currently in the last available spot for the Turin tournament, was defeated by Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut in two sets 4-6 6-7 and was unable to increase his lead over his pursuers.

Fritz and Hurkacz are rubbing their hands together, while Jannik Sinner (who without injury would have participated in the tournament in Kazakhstan) and Matteo Berrettini are also returning to hope, although qualification for the Roman remains almost a mirage.
