Tour of Lombardy, a star player forfeits
Simon Yates forced to drop out of Tour of Lombardy
The Giro di Lombardia, whose 2022 edition is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8, will not see one of the most anticipated riders, Britain’s Simon Yates, at the starting line.
The Team BikeExchange-Jayco rider was in fact the protagonist, in spite of himself, of a crash in training that caused him, as communicated by his team, “minor injuries that will not allow him to take part in the Giro di Lombardia scheduled for Saturday.”
Yates’ season, dinque, can already be said to be over, Lombardy being the last race he had scheduled. Team BikeExchange-Jayco itself has confirmed that the 2018 Vuelta winner, who finished third in the 2021 Giro d’Italia, will return to racing directly in 2023.
