Italvolley women, Davide Mazzanti points the way after the ko
“We have to be confident in our rhythm, because it makes the game smooth and effective.”
At the end of a tight match, which Italy led by two sets to one, came the first world defeat for Davide Mazzanti’s girls, beaten by Brazil in the fifth set (1715 the last partial) despite a Paola Egonu with 37 final points. In the Azzurra troop there is regret for a match that could have been brought to their side, but there is also the awareness that they can play all the way with all the opponents. And, above all, nothing is compromised in Pool E: qualification to the quarterfinals is in the ropes for the Italian group.
After the match, coach Mazzanti made statements taken from the Italian Volleyball Federation: “We have to be confident in our rhythm, because it makes the game fluid and effective. Against Brazil, however, we were not able to create the right space between us and our opponents. When we started to do better, on the counterattack, we went ahead, thanks to our game. In the middle of the fourth set, we pushed less on the serve and had some frenzy on the counterattack. Then in overall stroke management we were not as polished as Brazil was,” the coach began.
“Clearly we are sorry to have lost this match, but we must immediately restart. In tomorrow’s match against Japan we will need quality in attack, so we can show again what we can do,” he concluded.
