Cagliari stops Genoa: 0-0 finish at Marassi
The all-Redblue challenge ends without a goal.
Genoa does not go beyond a draw at Marassi against Cagliari, which on Ligurian soil withstands the Grifone’s shockwave and brings home a 0-0 draw that returns to move the standings.
In fact, it was mainly the hosts who made themselves dangerous, especially with Coda and Gudmundsson (who also hit a post in the 18th minute after a splendid personal action). Cagliari is seen with a couple of Luvumbo initiatives, then Genoa becomes dangerous again: Coda is stopped by the referee for offside, Lapadula misses aim by a whisker, Aramu sins of selfishness and misses the conclusion with Gundmundsson very free. Before halftime it is Nandez’s left-footed shot that grazes the guest’s mocking goal.
The theme of the match does not change in the second half, particularly with Coda and Gudmundsson continuing to attack in tandem and solo. The island fort, however, holds. Cagliari does not just sit back and watch, and in particular with Deiola attempts the fortunes forward on a couple of occasions: the aim, however, is not there. In the final it is then Radunovic who opposes Coda, giving the Sardinian outfit its 11th point of the season after two consecutive knockouts. Genoa at 15 points like the leaders Reggina, Bari and Brescia, but with one more game already played.
