Track cycling world championships to kick off without a star player
The review will take place Oct. 12-16 in France
The announcement of a major absence has shaken insiders in no small part on the eve of the Track Cycling World Championships, scheduled for Oct. 12-16 in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France: Ashton Lambie, world champion in the team pursuit, will not participate in the rainbow event and will therefore not defend the title he won in the individual pursuit ahead of Jonathan Milan and Filippo Ganna.
“When I crossed the finish line at the track world championships in Roubaix last year, I felt perhaps for the first time a deep sense of fulfillment. I had achieved the maximum goals I could set for myself; there was nothing left to win. I want to aim for other big goals now, so I decided not to take part in this year’s World Championships.”
