Matteo Berrettini, Florence is bitter.

Berrettini immediately eliminated from Atp in Florence

Rough night for Matteo Berrettini, who collapses vertically in the final match against Roberto Carballes Baena and is forced to say goodbye to the Atp 250 in Florence, which began with far different ambitions and with a ‘bye’ that had allowed him to start as early as the second round.

The Roman’s start was actually positive: in fact, despite a few slip-ups, Berrettini won the first set 7-5 and went ahead 2-0 in the second. Carballes Baena, however, did not want to give up: winning four games in a row he put himself back in the match and won the second fraction on tie-break, 7-6(5).

The third set, however, seems to be completely in Berrettini’s grasp, going ahead 5-2: the Spaniard, however, has another burst of pride and does not concede anything more to the higher-ranked opponent, winning five games in a row (two on the Roman’s serve) that are worth the 7-5 win and qualification to the quarters, where he will meet another surprise of the tournament, Sweden’s Mikael Ymer.

For Berrettini, on the other hand, a step backward from his fine performances in Davis Cup and Laver Cup.
