Marc Marquez would rather be in Fabio Quartararo than Pecco Bagnaia
Marquez spoke ahead of the Philip Island GP, the third-last round of MotoGp
Marc Marquez attended the customary riders’ press conference and introduced the Phillip Island race in Australia, scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 16.
“Australia is one of my favorite tracks. You have to start well, find the right lines right away. It looks like the weather can be tricky, I want to feel an advancement of my physical condition,” began the Spanish centaur.
“With Doohan I talked a lot, especially before the fourth surgery. He had been in a similar situation with his leg: he told me that maybe I won’t be able to ride like before but in a different way. And that is important. In the winter I will have to work well to be competitive in 2023,” said the eight-time world champion.
Marquez then returned to the last two GPs: “If I feel good on the bike I will try to approach the weekend with the same strategy as in Thailand. Then I’ll see on Sunday if I’m okay: in Buriram I was destroyed on Sunday, but luckily then the race was in the wet. In the last week I had a chance to rest and it helped. In Motegi I had realized that in braking I’m not going bad, I feel pretty good. I attacked Oliveira at the last corner in Japan.”
“Would I rather be Quartararo or Bagnaia in this situation? I would always prefer to be in the lead, with points ahead. Although Ducati is doing well and seems to have the best package,” he concluded.
