MotoGp, Ducati: Michele Pirro doesn’t mince words about Pecco Bagnaia
Michele Pirro doesn’t hide when talking about Pecco Bagnaia
A few days after winning his ninth Italian title (his sixth in the Sbk category of the Civ), Michele Pirro spoke to ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’ about the MotoGp season and Pecco Bagnaia in particular, urging to avoid regrets for a few complicated races on the part of the official Ducati centaur, who is nonetheless in full fight for the MotoGp World Championship.
“When I crashed at Imola, I thought about how easy it can be to criticize from the outside,” Pirro said. “Sometimes you think that when a rider crashes it’s because he risked too much and it wasn’t necessary…. I think that’s the beauty and the ugliness of this sport. Riders should be appreciated, from the first to the last. There are situations to be decided in a split second.”
“It’s difficult to advise from the outside,” added the Italian champion. “They told me not to take risks, but then it’s difficult when you’re in the saddle. And then there are particular situations, as happened to me in Mugello. That’s why you have to appreciate all the riders.”
Francesco, aka ‘Pecco,’ Bagnaia after winning the Moto2 world championship in 2018 with Sky Racing Team VR46, will make his MotoGp debut in 2019 riding the Ducati of Team Pramac Racing. In September 2020, he scores his first podium in the top MotoGP category in Misano.
The following year he switched to the official Ducati team and finished the championship in second place, behind the French Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo.
