Blood emergency in Sardinia, Cagliari also takes the field

Blood shortage is a problem Sardinia has been suffering for months. Regional Health Councillor Mario Nieddu told the region’s website, “Sardinia is going through a particularly difficult time because of the shortage of blood. Donating is a gesture of altruism and solidarity that can save people’s lives. At this time, in a special way, our health system needs to increase its blood supply in order to provide answers to all the people suffering from diseases that require transfusions and surgical activity. The response to this emergency requires the participation of anyone who can donate by turning to associations and collection centers throughout the Island.”

To contribute to the cause, Cagliari has decided to launch a new initiative: “Cagliari Calcio and Avis Sardegna have launched an initiative to face the blood emergency on the Island together. Fans who choose to donate their blood will be able to receive a free ticket to attend Cagliari’s home matches at the Unipol Domus. There will be 150 coupons available from Avis Sardegna at each match until the end of the season. Just go to one of the AVIS offices in the area: for more info, you can contact 070 41221 or visit www.avisardegna.itï “¿”. A most laudable project that will hopefully give a breath of fresh air to the Sardinian health care system.

The scudetto won by Cagliari at the end of the 1969-70 season has remained in the history of Italian soccer. Manlio Scopigno was on the bench while the team’s star was Gigi Riva: the bomber scored 21 goals, boasting the title of top scorer for the third time in just four years. Riva ended his very long experience on the island in 1977, having scored something like 164 goals.
