Italy-Spain on Nov. 11 in Pesaro

Challenge to the reigning World and European Champions. Italy-Spain, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 11 at 9 p.m. at the Vitrifrigo Arena in Pesaro, is that and much more. After EuroBasket 2022, coach Gianmarco Pozzecco’s Azzurri continue their qualification path to the FIBA World Cup 2023 by hosting one of the strongest national teams around: coach Sergio Scariolo’s Spain.

To create the right atmosphere and push the team to a weighty and prestigious victory, the venue of Pesaro was chosen, a city that boasts a historical basketball tradition and in possession of one of the best facilities in Italy.

“For a great game,” said FIP President Giovanni Petrucci, “we have chosen a great stage. Pesaro is not only the home of one of the most emblazoned club teams in our Serie A Championship, Victoria Libertas, but also one of our most recognized basketball cities. The Azzurri wake of the European Championship and the great success of the Milan crowd have left their mark. I am sure that Pesaro basketball fans, who have always been warm and knowledgeable, will not fail to support the team. We want to beat Spain and take a decisive step forward to get to the World Cup, which can then take us to the Paris 2024 Games. I have no doubts about the success of an event that we are organizing with great harmony together with the Municipality of Pesaro, the FIP Marche Regional Committee and Master Group Sport.”

These are the statements of Pesaro Mayor Matteo Ricci and Marche City Councilor for Sport Mila Della Dora: “Proud that great basketball has once again chosen Pesaro to host such an important event, which once again puts our city in the spotlight of national basketball. We continue to invest in facilities that confirm our aspiration to be at the top among Italian ‘basketball cities.’ And it is no coincidence that President Petrucci, whom we thank, has chosen our city to build a Basketball Citadel, which will be built around the swimming pool in Via Togliatti: a great project, which demonstrates our desire to remain one of the Italian capitals of basketball. Hosting the National Basketball Team is a great privilege for us, as well as a beautiful showcase that confirms Pesaro as a city of Sports and the Vitrifrigo Arena as a temple of basketball.”

The match is organized for the Italian Basketball Federation by Master Group Sport, FIP commercial advisor.
