Filippo Ganna dominates again: gold medal and new world record
Filippo Ganna swept the track cycling world championships
Open applause in France for Filippo Ganna: the champion from Verbania won the gold medal in the pursuit at the Track Cycling World Championships.
To reaffirm his supremacy, Ganna stopped the clock at a time of 3’59″636, a new world record. The silver medal went to Jonathan Milan from Friuli, who led until the middle of the race, third step of the podium for Portugal’s Alves Oliveira. Fourth was Britain’s Daniel Bigham.
Ganna at mid-race recovered the early disadvantage on Milan and took yet another world title. It is the fifth rainbow gold for him in the individual pursuit specialty, his sixth rainbow gold in total. Just a few days ago, on Oct. 8, he set a new ‘hour record in Grenchen with 56.792 km.
