Supercoppa Volleyball, Cagliari ready to welcome the four contenders
Played on Monday, Oct. 31 and Tuesday, Nov. 1
Sardinia and in particular its capital, Cagliari, are preparing to host a major national sporting event, the Men’s Volleyball Super Cup, which in the 2022 edition will see the participation of Cucine Lube Civitanova, Valsa Group Modena, Sir Safety Susa Perugia and Itas Trentino. Organizing the event, which will take place between Monday, Oct. 31 and Tuesday, Nov. 1, is the Volleyball League Serie A together with the FIPAV Sardinia Regional Committee, the Region of Sardinia and the Municipality of Cagliari.
All parties involved showed great satisfaction at the presentation of the event. Thus Eliseo Secci, president of FIPAV Sardegna: “I want to make a big thank you to the Volleyball League Serie A, it was not obvious to make us part of an event of this magnitude here in Sardinia, as well as to the mayor of Cagliari and the other authorities. It is a real challenge for us, it will engage so many of our people and fans, and we are proud to host the event. We know that normally certain events are played in arenas that can accommodate very large numbers of people, our PalaPirastu will hold ‘only’ 2,200, but we hope that thanks also to this Super Cup in Cagliari a sports culture will be born, as well as further stimulate the institutions to pay attention to sports.”
“We are often asked why we are organizing the Super Cup in Cagliari,” then explained the President of the Volleyball League Serie A, Massimo Righi. “We believe that in Sardinia there is a huge population of volleyball fans who are rarely lucky enough to witness volleyball at the highest level. I experienced the 2011 Super Cup here, a very successful edition, and the Under-21 World Cup last year. Of course, 5,000 people will not be present, but we hope it can be a small seed planted in such a land. Let’s not forget that we are World Champions, eight Azzurri will be on the field in this two-day event. Our club events are probably the ones with the highest technical level in the world, even outside of Italy they have a gigantic reach, and the 3rd Place Final will be an added treat for spectators who will be able to watch it at the live arena, not having so many opportunities to see competitions of the highest level for now.”
