ATP Naples, Matteo Berrettini wanted his revenge
Berrettini defeated Carballes Baena in the round of 16
Matteo Berrettini spoke at a press conference after his two-set victory (6-4, 6-2) over Spain’s Roberto Carballes Baena, who had defeated him last week at the Florence tournament.
The Roman thus advances to the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 tournament in Naples.
“I felt good on the court. When you come to a different tournament you have to adapt a little bit and so I took the first few games to adapt. It was important to find the conditions as I went along. We all know how it had ended against him last week, so it’s an important rematch,” remarked Berrettini, happy to have taken his revenge.
Then the Wimbledon 2021 finalist talked about the opponent awaiting him in the quarters, Japan’s Taro Daniel, already faced three times, with two wins and one loss for the Italian: “He is a player who adapts well to all surfaces. We always had good battles. Let’s assume that when I feel good, I think more about myself than about the opponent. I have to be ready but I feel confident and therefore ready to beat him.”
