Sampdoria-Ascoli 2-2 (9-8 d.c.r.) and Bologna-Cagliari 1-0 in the last matches of the round of 16

Curious epilogue, that of Marassi, in the Coppa Italia challenge between Sampdoria and Ascoli. The two teams, which had first ended 1-1 in the 90 minutes – goals by Verre in the 10th minute and Collocolo in the 33rd – then 2-2 after extra time, with seals by Ascoli’s Donati in the 110th minute and Blucerchiato Caputo in the 118th minute, went to penalty kicks: an endless challenge, decided by the two goalkeepers. First Sampdorian Contini scored his penalty, then turned away his colleague Guarna’s shot, giving the passage of the round to Stankovic’s team, which will face Fiorentina in the round of 16.

In the day’s other match, Thiago Motta’s Bologna got the better of Fabio Liverani’s Cagliari thanks to an unfortunate own goal by Obert in the 69th minute. After a header by former Lykogiannis on the development of a corner, the Slovakian’s deflection proved decisive to beat goalkeeper Aresti. Now the Bologna lineup will face Lazio in the next round.
