Jannik Sinner’s announcement raises the hopes of his fans
Jannik Sinner ignites the hopes of his fans
Coming back from an ankle injury at the ATP 250 tournament in Sofia, Jannik Sinner will face Chile’s Cristian Garìn on Wednesday: “The ankle is fine,” he announced in the interview granted to ATP. “In the last two weeks I haven’t played so much tennis, but in Vienna we try to raise the level. I am very happy to come back to Vienna, so many friends come here normally, plus some of my family should come too. Let’s see how it goes. For sure, the most important thing is how the ankle is, and it’s fine.”
The South Tyrolean raised his fans’ hopes about participating in the Nitto ATP Finals, “They are a very important tournament. I’m not thinking about it so much, but as long as it’s mathematically still possible, I won’t stop believing. Also because it doesn’t cost anything to believe.”
Despite having achieved excellent results in skiing since childhood, at the age of 13 Jannik decided to devote himself exclusively to tennis, moving to Bordighera, at the court of Riccardo Piatti. It was a choice that would prove successful, as Sinner is the youngest Italian tennis player ever to enter the top 100 (October 2019) and to win an Atp title in the Open era (Sofia 2020). In addition, along with Matteo Berrettini, Jannik is the only Italian tennis player to have reached at least the round of 16 in all four Slams. For him, 2022 was the breakthrough year: he left Piatti to rely on Vagnozzi.
