Lorenzo Musetti exits the scene in Basel
Musetti knocked out in debut
Lorenzo Musetti, after his triumph in Naples, had to surrender to Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the first round of the ATP 500 in Basel. The Spaniard overcame him in a comeback with a score of 1-6 6-3 6-4.
And yes, Lorenzo was off to a strong start right away, cashing 6-1 in the first partial. At a distance, however, the Iberian tennis player came out, first making the second set his own thanks to a surgical break made in the eighth game and then conquering the third and decisive set by coming back from 1-4, putting away five consecutive games. Fatal for the Italian was the eighth game of the last partial: Musetti did not materialize three consecutive opportunities to move to 5-3, losing his service and the match.
The fatigues of the success on Campania soil surfaced as the match lengthened and the new world number 23 thus has to say goodbye to the Basel tournament. Ramos advances to the round of 16 where he will face Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik.
