Paola Egonu, a debut to forget in Turkey

There was great anticipation for the season debut of Paola Egonu and her Vakifbank Istanbul team in general.

However, the Turkish squad, which was crowned European champions last May and strengthened with the arrival with the opposite player from our national team, lost the Super Cup to Fenerbahçe sharply.

The yellow-and-white women imposed themselves with a clear 3-0 (partials of 25-23 25-21 25-21). Paola Egonu herself, top scorer with 22 points, was the negative protagonist on match point, when due to a misunderstanding with her new director she moved, dropping a ball coming in front of her.

Paola Egonu was born in Cittadella, in the province of Padua, in 1998. Her parents are of Nigerian descent; it is said that her father, when the future volleyball champion was very young, was seriously considering changing her sport, diverting her to basketball. We will never know if Paola would have become a great basketball player, but for sure, as far as volleyball is concerned, she is at the top at the planetary level. In 2022 she left Italy to move to Turkey and defend the colors of VakıfBank Istanbul.
