F1: something is moving for the Caribbean Grand Prix
The Colombian government would like to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix in Barranquilla, the country’s fourth-largest city by population. “Talks are progressing well, in the coming weeks there will be a working table that will also include the Colombian Olympic Committee, districts, the government and other political entities,” Mayor Jaime Pumarejo said in an interview granted to El Heraldo.
“On everyone’s part there is great enthusiasm: every day so many people are working on the project and we hope that everything will go well,” continued the Colombian city’s first citizen. “Certainly there are still problems and issues to be resolved, but that does not mean that Colombia is not capable of organizing such an event. Our intention is to involve other municipalities such as Cartagena and Santa Marta, which is why we would like to call it the Caribbean Grand Prix.”
“Colombia is a country full of contrasts, it is useless to hide it: we are a nation under construction that certainly has difficulties, however, we can and must take advantage of this great opportunity to create employment and foster economic growth,” Pumarejo concluded.
