Mats Wilander reveals a limitation of Carlos Alcaraz
Wilander warns Alcaraz
Speaking at the microphones of Eurosport Mats Wilander spoke about Carlos Alcaraz. The current world number one was forced to retire in his Paris-Bercy Masters 1000 quarterfinal match against Denmark’s Holger Rune, later winner of the title, due to an abdominal physical problem that will also force him to miss the ATP Finals in Turin.
“Carlos Alcaraz will win less than Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer because his serve is too weak right now,” Wilander began.
“When he faces a player like Felix Auger-Aliassime, who shoots very hard and is very accurate, Carlos struggles a lot,” the former tennis player continued.
Finally, he returned to Roger Federer’s retirement, “It is not easy to accept that he will not play anymore. I was hoping he would be able to play 3-4 more tournaments, but maybe it was just an illusion. If we look at the level the game has reached in the last couple of years, we see that it is almost impossible to be competitive at 40-41 years old. Federer has taken tennis to another level, becoming one of the greatest athletes ever. He has made millions of people around the world fall in love with him.”
