A new trophy for Pecco Bagnaia
After the MotoGp world title Pecco Bagnaia can celebrate again: the champion was awarded the Golden Collar. Andrea Verona, EnduroGP World Champion, was also awarded during the ceremony. “It was held today in Rome, inside the Monumental Gymnasium of the H Palace of the University of Studies of the Foro Italico, the Ceremony of Delivery of the Golden Collars of CONI. The highest honor of Italian sport is awarded to all Italian athletes capable of winning the world title in their discipline in the current year,” reads the Federmoto note.
“The awardees were presented with the Collar of Gold by the Minister of Sport, Andrea Abodi, CONI President Giovanni Malagò and the President of the Italian Paralympic Committee, Luca Pancalli. Accompanied by FMI President Giovanni Copioli, representing the world of motorcycling were Francesco Bagnaia (MotoGP World Champion) and Andrea Verona (EnduroGP World Champion). Appearing both enthusiastic, they were applauded at length by Italy’s top leaders and top sportsmen and women. The Ceremony was broadcast live on Rai 2.”
Francesco, aka ‘Pecco,’ Bagnaia after winning the Moto2 world championship in 2018 with Sky Racing Team VR46, will make his MotoGpin debut in 2019 riding the Ducati of Team Pramac Racing. In September 2020, he scored his first podium in the top MotoGP category at Misano. The following year he switched to the official Ducati team and finished the championship in second place, behind the French Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo.
