Official: Karim Benzema misses World Cup in Qatar

Following the injury sustained on Saturday, Karim Benzema is forced to say goodbye to the World Cup in Qatar. This is the note from the French Federation: “Due to the injury to the quadriceps in his left thigh, Karim Benzema is forced to miss the World Cup. The whole team shares Karim’s sadness and wishes him a speedy recovery.”

Having grown up footballing at Olympique Lyon, Karim Benzema left his country in 2009 to settle at Real Madrid. With the Blancos he has so far collected 422 appearances embellished by 224 goals. He was top scorer in Ligue 1 (2007-2008), La Liga (2021-2022) and the UEFA Champions League (2021-2022). With 28 official trophies won at club level, he is the most capped French footballer and the top French scorer in UEFA club competitions and the Spanish league. In 2022, he managed to win the Ballon d’Or becoming the fifth Frenchman to win the accolade.
