Croatia in Davis Cup semifinals, Spain is out
Spain-Croatia 0-2
Croatia needed only two singles matches to beat Spain for the first time in the Davis Cup.
Thanks to Marin Cilic and Borna Coric’s victories over Roberto Bautista and Pablo Carreno Busta, Croatia hits the semifinals for the sixth time in its history. Twice winners (2005 and 2018), twice more finalists (2016, 2021), in Malaga today the national team entrusted to captain Vedran Martic will challenge Australia for a place in the final.
Despite one of the worst versions on serve in the third set Marin Cilic, protagonist of the Croatian triumph in 2018, defeated 57 63 76(5) Pablo Carreno Busta, champion in 2019 in the first edition with the new format, and thus took away from Spain the satisfaction of centering the third semifinal in Davis in the last four years.
