In the Davis semifinal against Canada, the dances will be opened by Lorenzo Sonego and Denis Shapovalov, on court for the first singles match of the day

This is it. After Thursday’s feat against the United States, tennis’ Italy wants to keep dreaming: to do so, however, in order to join surprising Australia in the final, it will need to beat Canada, which qualified with difficulty thanks to a comeback victory over Germany.

The haggard Italian national team – without injured Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini – will still be able to count on a Lorenzo Sonego in full competitive trance, and on a Lorenzo Musetti eager to avenge the defeat – fortunately painless thanks to the doubles then won by Bolelli and Fognini – suffered in the quarterfinals against Taylor Fritz.

The confrontation with the North American team is not without its pitfalls: in singles the Azzurri will face respectively Denis Shapovalov, already a cross and delight in the clash with the Germans, and Felix Auger-Aliassime, number 6 in the world rankings and in general a tennis player on the rise in the circuit. On Italy’s side may play the renowned inconstancy of the native of Tel Aviv, Sonego’s opponent in the first match of the day, already the protagonist in the past of many matches thrown to the nettles due to inability to manage key moments.

Lorenzo Musetti, regardless of his teammate’s result, is called upon to pull off a real feat against Auger-Aliassime, who, however, has had, in the last period, some dangerous lapses as evidenced by his two defeats out of three matches played at the ATP Finals in Turin. One thing is certain: Musetti will do everything to redeem himself and to fuel his dream of raising the Salad Bowl in the presence of Australia in the final to be played on Sunday, November 27, also in Malaga.
