Berrettini: “I don’t regret playing.”

After Italy’s elimination in the Davis Cup, captain Volandri’s choice to make a surprise use of Matteo Berrettini in the doubles alongside Fabio Fognini after Simone Bolelli’s injury holds the headlines: the Roman tennis player, still with a sore foot and lagging behind in condition, failed to make a difference.

“I really strained my mind to think positive, it was mentally difficult to manage. I tried, I put myself to work, I didn’t regret playing – are the words in the press conference reported by Ubitennis -. The team felt it was the best solution.”

“Although it was difficult I am proud. You don’t have to hide behind a finger; I know I can play much better than that; what Filippo asked me was to put my heart into it and give what I had, obviously I felt better in my career, but in Davis what you need is to give everything. In spite of everything we came close, but we are laying a very good foundation for the future.”
